About the Event

From the late 19th century through the early decades of the 20th century, wealthy businessman in cities such as Chicago sought retreats in the country. As Gentleman Farmers they built beautiful homes designed by prominent architects of the time and made their large farms into showplaces.

This presentation recalls the heyday of the Gentleman Farmer in DuPage County and focuses on three country estates that once flourished here–those of Frank and Paul Butler (Oak Brook and Natoma), Joy Morton (Thornhill), and Dan and Ada Rice (Danada).

The speaker is Linda Neff, a docent and researcher at Mayslake Peabody Estate since 2003. Lecture is FREE.
